Yesterday one of the only teams in the UFL with fans, the St. Louis Battlehawks, lost in the playoffs yet again. I would like to point out all of the empty seats. Not only is the UFL getting less popular, I believe it is too late.
Lack of Attendance
Well, well, well. Look at all those empty seats in St. Louis. It's almost like RJ's hot take was correct yet again, they should have moved to the smaller soccer stadium. Shoutout to all the haters, I was right again. Matthew Call will never recover from this.
The reason attendance is lacking is quite simple, no one actually has a home team. For those of you that don't know, all the teams live and practice in Dallas and then travel to all the games. The fans in St. Louis noticed.
The reason the XFL was successful before covid was because we finally felt like we had a team again. Everyone bought in, even the players and coaches. They did things like volunteered around the city and showed up to high school football games. St. Louis noticed and responded with potentially selling out the entire dome before the covid shut down. The UFL never did anything like this and they took St. Louis fans for granted. Fans have noticed the league has not bought into the city as well as the slowly increasing ticket prices.
Unless the UFL makes some changes, I no longer see this league surviving. There's a clear path to a successful spring league, but for some reason no one ever wants to take the time to do it the right way. If the UFL actually had home teams, I don't think we would be having this conversation.
