How Can You Think Baseball Is Boring When The Rockies Exist
Baseball to some people is boring. I get it. Baseball isn't for everyone, it's for smart people. Its for people that like to use their brain. Baseball is all about strategy down to every pitch. We are getting close to the dog days of summer where the only sport on is baseball (the best time of the year in my opinion). For those of you that don't really follow baseball, I have a team for you to watch. Allow me to introduce the Colorado Rockies.
Colorado Rockies 18-60
Last place in the National League West
Now I have never been to a Rockies game, but from what I've been told they are really fun to go to. They have a lot of fun stuff to do in the stadium and the food is very good. You're going to need all of that extra stuff because they are currently the worst team in baseball. They are actually on pace to be the worst team in baseball history.
The Rockies are currently 10-50 with a run differential of -183. There is not a single thing the Rockies are good at. They have terrible pitching, terrible offense, and they even are the worst defensively in baseball. Statistically, their best player is a random relief pitcher. So by now you are probably asking yourself "RJ, why would I watch this team if they are so bad.", well ladies and gentleman, that's the best part. Eventually they are going to win.
One of the best parts about the sport of baseball is that anything can happen on any given day. The season is so long that eventually they will win a series at some point this season. Have they won one yet? Not even close no, but they will eventually. So let's all sit down and enjoy watching the highs and lows of the Rockies season. There will be many times where they will be close but fumble it away, but at some point this season they will pull it off.
As of right now, they have actually won the first game of the series against the Marlins last night. Will they pull it off and win this series? Almost definitely not. The baseball gods wouldn't do that to us. The baseball gods are going to make us wait for a good one. I think its going to go down in two ways.
Scenario 1: It will be against the Dodgers in hilarious fashion. Dodgers fan will cry about and act like it doesn't bother them, but it will because Dodger's fans will always find something to complain about. I can't wait for the deferred money to backfire on them.
Scenario 2: It's the gritty days of September, a team like the Giants or the Padres need to win this series to make it into the playoffs with a wildcard spot. It should be easy right? WRONG! This is a classic baseball scenario where suddenly all of the Rockies players start playing perfect baseball. Kris Bryant? MVP player again for one series. The pitching staff? All elite for three games. Their defense? Suddenly making diving plays with no errors.
This is the best part about baseball. Something like this happens every season. Being from St. Louis, one of my favorites is when the Braves chocked away their playoff spot in 2011 in a situation similar to scenario 2, except for them it was an entire month not just series. Go Rockies!
