Is Vegas Ruining Sports?
For those of you that don't know, I'm a casual WWE fan. For all of you that hate on WWE cry about it. WWE is sick and very fun to watch. But that's not the point, the point is the news that has come out about WWE recently.
"The plan right now is to run WrestleMania on a regular basis in Las Vegas"
This made me ask the question, is Vegas ruining sports by trying to take all of these events? Let's break it down by sport.
WWE
This can work for WWE. People will complain about Wrestlemania not traveling around, but it barely travels around as it is. I feel like they only go to New York, Dallas, LA, and Vegas with other cities sprinkled in. Nothing will feel different and people need to calm down.
Super Bowl
This would never work for the Super Bowl. Vegas would have to pay an ABSURD amount of money for them to stop traveling to different cities. The Super Bowl is also different where it's a spectacle anywhere it travels to. The Super Bowl could be in the dessert in the middle no where and it would look really cool to go there the entire week.
The Final Four
This would be the event that works the most. So many people already go to Vegas for the Final Four for the sole purpose of betting on it, you might as well just play the games there too. This could backfire for the teams themselves however. You have to have a disciplined team to not hit the town in Vegas the night before your game.
College Football National Championship
This one has a 50/50 chance of working. There's two issues with this. First, the football stadium is not close to the strip like the other venues. That's a lot of Ubers that will have the worst night of their lives. The second one is the discipline point again. The rumor in the NHL is the Vegas Knights are really good at home because the opposing team is usually hungover from the night before.
In Conclusion
Sadly, I think this would work easily. Vegas has the money to pay for these events and they have the ability to make an absurd amount of money from this. This would set a bad precedent. Championships on neutral ground should continue to tour cities. It would be a shame if there's never a neutral ground championship in a town like Indianapolis or Buffalo ever again.
